Rules and Regulations

1. Membership. Membership of the Foundation is open to all individuals or organisations with an interest in the maritime field. Only Indian citizens are eligible for Life and Ordinary membership: however life members who subsequently take up foreign citizenship may apply to the Committee for retention of their membership. The admission of members is entrusted to the Committee who shall have an absolute discretion as to admission and expulsion of members and as to the manner in which selection is carried out. The number of members and fees and subscriptions payable in each class will be such as may be determined by the Council from time to time. The classes of members and their respective qualifying stipulations are as under :-

(a) Founding Members. Persons who took an active interest or part in the establishment of the Foundation and were enrolled as such.

(b) Life Members. This type of membership would be accorded only after deliberation by the Governing Council. The present number of four could be enhanced by including a few more eminent persons.

(c) Associate Members. This would be the membership offered to serving and retired officers of the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, the Merchant Navy and others associated with, or having an abiding interest in maritime activities. Each application would be duly scrutinized before acceptance by the Director. Initial membership would be for a period of one year, subsequently renewable for 3-5 years. The Navy and Coast Guard may also examine sponsoring this form of Membership as a ‘prize’ for according recognition to Junior Officers for meritorious academic performance.

(d) Institutional Members. The Committee may, on application in the prescribed form and in each case on payment of such membership as may be applicable from time to time, admit a person or persons from any organization, institute, service, society, business or enterprise associated with maritime activities. They shall have the same rights and privileges as Members but shall have voting rights and a period of membership as be stipulated by the Committee in each case.

2. Subscription. Subscription for all types of memberships shall be as laid down by the Council from time to time and shall be payable on 01 Apr every year.

3. Termination of Membership. The membership of any member who commits a breach of any of the rules of the Foundation or who refuses or neglects to abide by any such rules or who commits any act which in the opinion of the Executive Council is calculated or likely to bring discredit to the foundation may be terminated by the Executive Council at its discretion after provision of due notice to the member concerned.
